The Carlton was closed in 1976 and converted into a three screen cinema
for Classic Cinemas
The 50 foot deep stage, dressing rooms, steam heating boilers and refrigerator plant rooms were sealed off and demolished for commercial use 70mm was installed in Screen 1
Now the Cineworld, Haymarket, the old Carlton in 2008 has been given a
new lease of life as a live theatre again with a construction of a new stage in Screen 1, as from 2nd February 2008, the Kneehigh Theatre production of Noël Coward's Brief Encounter is back at the Cinema on the Haymarket, this time Live on Stage with film included
